Missions and Outreach

Chair Elder Ron Straka

The Missions and Outreach Committee of Hope Church is committed to improving communication and a sense of partnership between Hope Church and selected local and foreign missions. It also facilitates and encourages evangelistic outreach efforts of Hope Church in our community. The committee regularly provides information to the congregation regarding the missionaries that Hope Church supports, including periodic updates and prayer requests. One of our goals is to see members of Hope Church participate in short term mission trips, both locally and abroad. We also support PCA church planting efforts and local evangelistic outreaches in the Scranton/Wilkes Barre area. The missions committee also coordinates an annual fall missions conference.

Chair Cheryl Straka
We make every effort to ensure that the worship service is done decently and in order.  This includes ensuring the sanctuary is welcoming with adequate seating, seasonal flowers, along with hymnals and Bibles, in good condition.  Arrangements are made for special music, and "special" presentations such as honoring our vets.  We oversee the Nursery and it's operations.  The staffing, the curriculum and scheduling for Children's Church are all part of Worship Committee's responsibility.

We head up Advent decorating which includes hanging wreaths, placing and decorating the Chrismon Trees, the Advent Wreath with candles and arranging for families to light the appropriate candle on one of the four Sundays in Advent.   The committee prepares a program for lighting the Chrismon Trees along with a church-wide party on the Saturday preceding the first Sunday in Advent.

We order supplies for preparing communion for the 1st Sunday of each month along with Maundy Thursday.  The committee is responsible for clean-up and reset after the communion service.  Changing the paraments on the pulpit and communion table according the "seasons" of the church calendar is done by Worship Committee.
